Restore your smile

Perioscope

With perioscope, you can restore your smile and continue enjoying all of your favorite foods.

What is PerioScope?

The perioscope is a specifically designed, tiny oral camera that is available to be used by your team at Eddy Periodontics and Implant Dentistry to help explore the extent of the inflamed pockets between your gums and your teeth.

The highly magnified images are transmitted to a monitor, which allows for comprehensive views of the plaque and calculus located below your gums, around the roots and around any specific areas that cannot be seen with normal efforts.

Perioscopy is actually no more invasive than a simple regular deep cleaning, which is the process of scaling and smoothing of your root's surfaces. We can administer a local anesthetic to neutralize any discomfort, and the procedure might take between one to two hours depending on the severity.

Nothing but absolute perfection is acceptable at Eddy Periodontics and Implant Dentistry. The entire staff focuses on a warm, patient, and caring experience for your dental care. Every day, every appointment, every procedure, the team concentrates on earning and maintaining your trust. We are proud to collaborate with you and your family, and each team member participates in continuing education to always apply the recent innovative technological advancements in the dental industry. Whether it is a regular checkup exam or a Perioscope procedure, simply call us at Rock Hill - (803) 324-8141 or Charlotte - (704) 275-3750, and schedule your appointment today. You can easily find us at 1144 India Hook Rd., #D, Rock Hill, SC, 29732 or 3111 Springbank Lane, Ste F, Charlotte, NC 28226.

Are You a Candidate for a Perioscope

When it comes to gum disease, visiting Eddy Periodontics and Implant Dentistry for dental care early will reduce your risk of many other oral health issues. If you have inflamed, bleeding gums, bad breath, or other symptoms of gum disease, you may be an ideal candidate for periodontal treatment with a perioscope depending on the advancement of the disease.

The Benefits of Perioscopy

There are always different benefits to different procedures, but treating your gum disease with a perioscope can benefit you in a number of ways. The benefits of visiting Eddy Periodontics and Implant Dentistry and using a perioscope can include:

  • Minimally Invasive- The procedure will not use any surgical steps and is considered comfortable.
  • A Clear Field of Vision of the Treatment Site- The tiny camera used allows the specific area to be magnified by 45x and to be visualized on a monitor.
  • Better Cleaning Process- Since we can see the treatment site, we can quickly and effectively clean the specific area.
  • Little Downtime- Since this treatment is not surgical and stitches are not required, it has a shorter recovery time.
  • Minimal Discomfort- Little discomfort, and a local anesthetic will be used.
  • Periodontal Health- Will improve dramatically.
  • Gum Surgery- Risks minimized.
  • Success Rate- Enhances the overall effectiveness of your gum disease treatment.
  • Cost- Is a cost-effective alternative to surgical care.

The Periscope Might Replace Periodontal Surgery in Many Cases

The periscope will give Eddy Periodontics and Implant Dentistry close-up views of the area that might require treatment, and it will give us the opportunity to avoid flap surgery in many situations. Flap surgery is a treatment that requires a surgical opening to give an unobstructed view of, and access to, the area that needs treatment.

To effectively remove the tartar or calculus, your team at Eddy Periodontics and Implant Dentistry will need to have a clear view of under the gums. The periscope gives us an intense view with highly magnified images, even up to 45x, which then allows us to guide the precise, total removal of all damaging calculus.

Using microsurgical dental instruments, we can now reach the deeper areas where the damaging calculus has collected, resulting in the progression of gum disease, and gently remove it with specific precision.

By removing this damaging tartar, it now leaves a natural smooth surface on the root of the tooth. It is now difficult for any bacteria to adhere to this fresh smooth surface, so your gums can recover and regenerate with the source of the infection gone. The gum tissue will naturally shrink, tighten, and reattach to your teeth to both support and protect them.

The successful results that the dental industry has achieved with the addition of the perioscope are noticeably more effective than with traditional gum surgery or even laser-assisted gum disease treatment, and the treatment achieves these successful results without the discomfort that is associated with surgical procedures.

Due to the intricate nature of using the perioscope, your treatment might take a little longer than a standard appointment. Depending upon the location in your mouth and the amount of tartar to be removed, the treatment usually takes about two hours for half of the mouth.

What is Recovery like after a Perioscope?

You might experience a little discomfort for a few days, but this can be easily treated with an over-the-counter pain reliever. Eddy Periodontics and Implant Dentistry will schedule a follow-up appointment to monitor your healing. We will also evaluate your progress. If you need any additional treatment, we will advise you at this time. It is also crucial to continue good oral hygiene habits after your treatment to make sure your periodontal disease does not return. This always includes:

  • Brushing twice a day for two minutes each time.
  • Flossing once a day.
  • Using mouthwash.
  • Continuing your preventative dental exams twice a year.

This basic oral hygiene routine will help prevent plaque and tartar from forming again and causing further damages.

Affordable and Comfortable Treatment

Your level of comfort is always a top priority for us, and we will address your options before your treatment. Your treatment with the periscope will not leave you with any post-operative discomfort associated with other gum surgical procedures. An additional benefit is that this extremely effective perioscope treatment is more affordable than either traditional or laser-assisted gum surgery.

Bone Grafting

When teeth are extracted or oral cysts are removed, the underlying jawbone can deteriorate. This can result in a sunken facial appearance and make dental implant placement more difficult. A bone graft is a straightforward procedure that promotes the growth of new bone cells, helping to restore your oral health and prepare you for further treatments.
