With gum regeneration, you can restore your smile and continue enjoying all of your favorite foods.

What is Gum Regeneration?

Your gums often take a secondary role to your teeth, but without the support of this soft, pink tissue you would not have teeth at all. Your gums play a critical role in both protecting your tooth roots and in also holding your teeth firmly in place. If your gum tissue becomes compromised, it will have a harmful effect on the healthy longevity of your teeth and can even impact your overall health. If left untreated, the bacteria that causes gum disease can enter the bloodstream and then pass bacterial infections to other organs, triggering inflammation in another body system. If you are suffering from gum disease you have a significantly better chance of developing other health conditions including high blood pressure, diabetes, or heart disease. Gum recession, when the gum tissue pulls away from your teeth creating a pocket between them, is a common development if you have moderate to severe gum disease. Not only will this look unpleasant and can have a negative impact on your smile, but these periodontal pockets are perfect for trapping even more bacteria, escalating the rate of infection progression.

Nothing but absolute perfection is acceptable at Eddy Periodontics and Implant Dentistry. The entire staff focuses on a warm, patient, and caring experience for your dental care. Every day, every appointment, every procedure, the team concentrates on earning and maintaining your trust. Our Highly Skilled & Compassionate Team

Our team, led by Dr. Nelson Eddy, a Diplomat of the American Board of Periodontology, and his son, Dr. Joseph Eddy, combines decades of experience with advanced training to provide exceptional care for every patient.

The Benefits of Gum Regeneration Procedures

Gum regeneration procedures are done to stop the progression of gum disease. These treatments regrow your gum tissue and bone by eliminating the source of the disease-causing bacteria. Gum regeneration procedures will reduce pocket depth and allow the gum tissue to repair itself.

After a successful gum regeneration procedure, the tooth-anchoring bone is now stronger, and the chances of tooth loss are dramatically reduced.

Gum Regeneration Aftercare

The successful effectiveness of your gum regeneration procedure will depend on your willingness to follow a postoperative diet and to exercise careful oral care. Eddy Periodontics and Implant Dentistry will help you determine if gum regeneration surgery might be beneficial for you. You can easily increase your chances of preserving your natural teeth by simply practicing daily oral hygiene, scheduling consistent professional cleanings, and following a mindful diet. These efforts will limit the progression of gum disease and decrease the likelihood of other possible dental problems.

The Gum Regeneration Procedures

When your team at Eddy Periodontics and Implant Dentistry performs a gum regeneration procedure, periodontal pockets are cleaned by folding back the gum tissue and removing the harmful bacteria. A thin resorbable membrane is then inserted into the pocket. This membrane promotes your body to regenerate the bone and gum tissue. This membrane stimulates tissue growth and acts as a barrier so that the faster-growing soft tissues will not invade the space for the slower-growing bone development.

  • Gum Grafting- Gum grafting is a popular and successful method of gum generation. The process includes taking tissue from the roof of the mouth, and using sutures, attaching it to the areas of your gums that need regeneration. As the graft heals it grows with your gums around your teeth, reducing the pockets that have formed and closing the gap with your teeth to restore a healthy, even smile line.

Gum grafting is a sightly invasive procedure, so we perform it using a local anesthetic, with dental sedation also if beneficial. You will follow a soft-food diet and take particular care of your teeth and gums while the graft heals. Eddy Periodontics and Implant Dentistry will give you specific instructions to follow during this time.

  • Bone Grafting- If you are affected by some tooth loss because of severe gum disease you will find that your jawbone loses mass and density as well. This will actually affect the natural shape of your face as well as your ability to successfully receive a tooth replacement solution such as a dental implant. Bone grafting is a common procedure as part of gum regeneration.

Like gum grafting, bone grafting involves either your own bone, or an artificial alternative being placed next to the area of the jaw that has deteriorated. This graft is attached with a special material and both the existing and new bone regenerate together, returning strength to your jaw. This procedure is quite often used to prepare the jawbone to receive dental implants. The dental implant is a tiny titanium post being surgically placed into your jaw to function as an artificial root to form a permanent base for an artificial crown.

  • Sinus lift- Your sinuses are the system of cavities connected in your skull that help with your respiratory processes. The maxillary sinuses are found located on both sides of your nose and above the upper jaw. If you have experienced tooth loss from gum disease and are considering dental implants to replace any missing teeth, Eddy Periodontics and Implant Dentistry may recommend that you have this simple procedure.

A sinus lift is necessary when the bone in your upper jaw is too close to the sinuses, so the placement of implant posts will not potentially cause any damage to your sinuses.

Bone Grafting

When teeth are extracted or oral cysts are removed, the underlying jawbone can deteriorate. This can result in a sunken facial appearance and make dental implant placement more difficult. A bone graft is a straightforward procedure that promotes the growth of new bone cells, helping to restore your oral health and prepare you for further treatments.
